THE
CORD BLOOD TRANSPLANTATION STUDY (COBLT) is a
prospective safety and efficacy study of umbilical cord
blood stem and progenitor cell transplantation. The main
objectives of the study are to determine if umbilical cord
blood is a useful source of stem cells for hematopoietic
reconstitution. In patients with malignancy, the study will
determine if there is a cell dose per recipient weight which
is limiting and if the two HLA mismatch barrier may be
crossed by using cord blood as the source of hematopoietic
stem cells. The study is funded by the National Heart, Lung
and Blood Institute (NHLBI).
Among other criteria, patients for the study must have
leukemia, hematologic disorder, or metabolic disorder
acceptable for transplant.
The COBLT Study is being conducted at the following Clinical
Transplant Centers. To find out more about each transplant

There
are two cord blood banks funded by NHLBI designated to
collect cord blood units as part of this project.
Collection of umbilical cord blood for use by this
study will only take place at hospitals associated
with these cord blood banks. Please refer to the
websites below for more information about donating
umbilical cord blood.
Umbilical cord blood units will be collected by
the following banks.
